As described by the Youth Politic, “Pods are a building block for helping us show up to care for one another. Like a friend, a classmate, or a neighbor; a “pod person” is a type of relationship. They are people we share trust with, who respond when we need care. ‘Pod Maps’ help us map out who those people are, so we can more easily understand our support system when we need it.”
The workshop will start with an introduction to pod and pod-mapping. Participants will learn about the origin and purpose of this tool, including how pods and pod-mapping have been used historically and in the past decade to respond to crises and emergency situations. Participants will build their own pod map and discuss how they can be used to create more safety and support at the community level. Participants will connect with others across the country who are also interested in using pods to practice community care and strengthen mutual aid networks of support.
