When Illinois closed schools in March 2020, students with disabilities in Chicago were unable to receive updated Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), a legally binding document that outlines specific services for each student. As a result, thousands of Black and Latine students were left scrambling to regain access to services from Chicago Public Schools.

How is Chicago Public Schools responding to this backlog of IEPs? What can you do to update a student’s IEP? That’s exactly what we’ll be discussing at our October #PublicNewsroom.

We’ll be joined by a panel who will share key context about the state of IEP renewals. Tune in to hear tips on how students with disabilities and their parents can advocate for their education needs.
