About the Pop-Up
City Bureau, a civic journalism lab based in Woodlawn, hosts a monthly event series at local libraries to build a community around mediamakers in Chicago and to offer free career and writing support to local residents.
UPDATE: The CB Pop-Up is going digital! Until it is safe to gather in groups again, City Bureau is hosting digital workshops and one-on-ones. We look forward to resume in-person coworking/networking when health restrictions permit.

Appointments: On April 29 we’ll be offering one-on-ones with a City Bureau editor via videochat or call. Get free advice on any piece of writing or pitch idea, or learn how to contact local reporters about issues that matter to you.
Workshop: On April 30 we will host a digital Public Newsroom workshop, showcasing community-led projects that are providing mutual aid, supporting local information needs and fostering joy. This month’s edition will feature Equity and Transformation, a group supporting Black informal economy workers. The interactive hour-long workshop will include breakout discussions and icebreakers.
