This workshop will prepare you to document detention hearings.

Chicago Documenters is partnering with Illinois Network for PreTrial Justice (INPJ) to document Cook County’s adherence to the 2023 SAFE-T Act’s Pretrial Fairness Act. This act replaced the county’s cash bail system with one that is based upon risk assessment. In this workshop will hear about the changes in law that have been enacted. You can expect to learn tips and methods for court watching . You will also complete practice sessions. Upon completion of this training you will receive Chi Docs court watching badge and be eligible to take assignments.

Court watching will need to be completed without the assistance of electronic devices. Taking assignments as a court watcher will require documenters who are able to take notes by hand and transfer them to electronic documents
