2025 has been a year of profound change across Chicago and the nation. We know that democracy doesn’t defend itself–people do. At City Bureau, we’re supporting the people who are building the future our communities need right now.

This year, City Bureau:

✓ Paid out $40,000+ directly to Chicago Documenters for monitoring local government meetings

✓ Created accessible free guides on lead pipes, getting help and helping others during ICE raids, and navigating local systems

✓ Trained emerging journalists to report with communities on housing and jobs, youth summer opportunities, and how intergenerational relationships shape collective action

✓ Convened our largest national Documenters Network Summit ever with community leaders who are equipping and paying people in 20+ communities nationwide

Together, we’re turning civic participation into everyday practice.
