Join us for a virtual workshop on Building Your Disaster Toolkit!

Catch up on the basics of disaster preparedness and response, including acronyms and agencies to know, how to pack an emergency kit, and what to expect in the days, weeks, and months after an extreme weather event. We’ll also workshop plans for a toolkit that works best for you and your community. Together, we’ll answer questions, share lived experiences, and connect with others who want their communities to be more resilient to climate change.

  • Date: Tuesday, November 10, 2026

  • Time: 5:00pm to 6:30pm CT

  • Location: Online via Zoom

About the workshop:

In this final workshop of the series with Grist, we will bring all the pieces together and practice applying our toolkit to other crisis situations such as ICE raids or pollution events. We’ll map out the roles different organizations and individuals will play during these events, and solidify plans to get your toolkit out into the world.

About the series:

No matter where you live, extreme weather can hit your area and change your life. In this four-session workshop series, participants will adapt Grist’s Disaster 101 toolkit — a comprehensive guide about prep, response and recovery — to their local contexts and to other crisis situations, including finding accurate information, identifying and interacting with local agencies, and strengthening community networks to be more resilient. Grist will also host office hours in between workshops to assist participants in creating their toolkits and making communication plans. Participants who attend all the workshops in this series will receive a special badge on Documenters.org.

Your Zoom link will be emailed on the day of the program.
